Some time after 1644, Townsend Albertson started a gristmill and a farm and the community became known as Albertson.

Baldwin New York
Baldwin, NY 11510 is a hamlet located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York.
Baldwin was founded in 1855 (as Baldwinsville) and named in honor of Thomas Baldwin (1795–1872), a member of the prominent Baldwin family of Hempstead and the leading merchant of Milburn at the time.
Shortly after Hempstead separated from Queens County in 1899, people began to move to “Beautiful Baldwin”, referred to as that for the village’s fine boating, bathing, and fishing. By 1939, ten years after the opening of Sunrise Highway, Baldwin, NY 11510 became the largest unincorporated village in New York State—a title that was lost to Levittown, NY 11756 in 1960. In 1990, the area south of Atlantic Avenue was separated from Baldwin and designated as the hamlet of Baldwin Harbor, NY 11510.

Bayville New York Piano Mover
The Village of Bayville, NY 11709, is located within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York.
Bayville was a popular tourist destination in the early 20th century, featuring a sandy beach and an entertainment “casino” with dining, dancing and lawn bowling. Historically, Bayville was known for its production of The Pine Island Oyster.

Bayville is connected to the main body of Long Island by a beautiful stone draw bridge erected in 1922 and refurbished in 1938. During the 1960s, Bayville became the center of controversy when then Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller announced his plan to build a bridge connecting Nassau County to either Westchester County or Connecticut, using Bayville as the southern side of the bridge. Local residents resisted the idea and eventually defeated it, utilizing the Federal Wetlands Protection Act as their weapon.

Bellerose New York
Bellerose, NY 11426 is a village in Nassau County, New York. The Village of Bellerose is in the Town of Hempstead near the western county line and borders Floral Park, NY 11001 and the County of Queens.
The village was founded by Helen Marsh of Lynn, Massachusetts. In 1907. Marsh purchased 77 acres of Floral Park, New York gladiola fields. The first Bellerose home was completed in 1910. Marsh persuaded the Long Island Rail Road to place a station in the new village, and she named the station Bellerose. It has been suggested that she named the station for the Rose farm, south of the railroad, and her daughter Belle, but she said that she simply found the name “euphonious.”

Belle Terre New York
Belle Terre, NY 11777 is a village in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County. It is located on the north shore of Long Island and overlooks the Long Island Sound. Bethpage New York
Bethpage, NY 11714 is a hamlet in the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County.
The name Bethpage comes from the Quakers, who named the area after the Biblical town Bethphage, which was between Jericho and Jerusalem in the Holy Land. The area was defined by the Bethpage Purchase in 1695. This area was referred to as Jerusalem Station, then Centralpark and finally in 1932 became known as Bethpage and was the last Post Office name change in Nassau County.
From 1936 until 1994, Bethpage was home to the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, which made, among other things, the F-14 Tomcat and the Apollo Lunar Module for moon landings, and for this reason Bethpage is mentioned in the film Apollo 13. Cablevision Systems Corporation is headquartered in Grumman’s former main office.
Bethpage State Park offers five golf courses to choose from. One of them, the black course, was the site of the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009.

Bohemia New York
Bohemia, NY 11716 is a hamlet in the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, New York.
Bohemia, NY was settled in 1854, when six couples bought land here when they moved from the Czech Republic. In 1862, 18 families were living in this newly settled area and in 1972, it was decided to call the settlement, Bohemia. Today, Bohemia is part of the Connetquot school district along with parts of Ronkonkoma, NY and Oakdale, NY.
For 100 years, Bohemia remained a very small village most of whose residents were of Czech descent. With the development of all of Long Island after World War II, Bohemia also grew and is a thriving community and home to The Piano Mover’s shop.

In 1640, the Town of Southampton was founded by the Shinnecock Indians. Brightwaters New York
Brightwaters, NY 11718 is a Village in the Town of Islip in Suffolk County. Brightwaters is one of only three incorporated villages in the Town of Islip.
Brightwaters didn’t “just happen.” It was the dream of Robert Ackerson and his three brothers. They purchased the land in 1907. Brightwaters is situated on the Great South Bay with a nearly mile long grand canal and yacht basin. There are none quite like it on Long Island — carved out of south shore meadowland, the Ackersons provided an ornamental boat landing, a floral plaza with night lighting, and Roman stone pagodas. In addition, beaches were established along the Bay to provide fishing and swimming recreation for the residents.
Altogether, the Ackersons branched out and purchased some 1200 acres, including the lakes and a white sandy beach shoreline along Great South Bay. Then they went to work on all this prime acreage. The five pretty lakes were not neglected. The Ackersons connected them with channels and rustic ornamental Venetian bridges and between the two lower lakes built a crescent-shaped concrete dam over one hundred feet long.

During much of the 19th century, Brookhaven was known as Fireplace; but this name has not been used since 1871 when it officially became Brookhaven. As hamlets, Brookhaven and South Haven have no formal boundaries. They border the the Great South Bay and most would say that Brookhaven’s western boundary is the Village of Bellport, and that South Haven’s eastern boundary is the Carman’s River and Shirley. Brookhaven itself is bounded on the east by Carman’s River, the Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge, and the Hamlet of South Haven. Most residents would say that Brookhaven’s northern boundary does not extend much north of the Sunrise Highway (NYS Route 27), especially since the Town Landfill can be found there — and that is, most assuredly, in Yaphank! South Haven is usually considered to include all of The South Haven County Park, which is north of Sunrise Highway.

Calverton New York
Calverton, NY 11933 is a hamlet in Suffolk County. It is on the border of the Town of Riverhead and the Town of Brookhaven.
In 1868 its post office opened and was named for Bernard J. Calvert and remained a small farming community specializing in cranberries which grew in swampy areas along the Peconic River until the Navy purchased 6000 acres so that Grumman could test and finish jets in 1953.
A 10,000 foot runway was built and most F-14’s and E2-C Hawkeyes passed through this plant.
In 1978 more than 1,000 acres of the base was used to create Calverton National Cemetery which has the largest area and is the busiest (in terms of burials per day) U.S. National Cemetery.
When Northrop purchased Grumman in 1995, the Navy began liquidating the land.
Plans for a 350 foot artificially built indoor ski mountain are in the works and plan to be completed by 2012.

Carle Place, NY 11514 is a hamlet in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County New York.
The name, Carle Place, was derived from the Carle House – a 32-room house built by Silas Carle in Westbury in the 1800s. It was called the “Carle Place”, and the surrounding area later took the name. In 1946, developer William J. Levitt bought 19 acres for an experiment. His crews brought precut lumber to the site and rapidly assembled 600 low-cost houses near the Carle Place station of the Long Island Railroad, offering affordable suburban living with an easy commute into New York City. Within five years, returning veterans and their families swelled the population, and served as the prototype for the enormous development Levitt began the following year in Levittown, NY 11756.
